Tuesday 17th May: Essex Rock

Essex Rock: Geology Beneath the Landscape – talk by Ian & Ros Mercer

Everything that we know about the Earth’s past has been learnt by digging into its rocks and studying them.  Ian and Ros Mercer reveal glimpses of the deep history of Essex from 500 million years ago through to the current Ice Age. The cliffs at Walton-on-the-Naze provide us with evidence of Earth processes through the past 55 million years. Geological processes continue – rocks slip into the sea, earthquakes shake the land, rivers carry away mud, sand and pebbles to the sea. We need to understand the past in order to cope with the present and to peer into the future.

Tuesday 14th May 2022, 7:30pm, at Ware Museum
